a.k.a. the week when Elizabeth just doesn't sleep. Okay, I'll admit that this probably my fault for being such a procrastinator. But in my defense, I was actually pretty good about my school work this weekend. I should probably point out that at the end of last semester, I picked up a second major, making me a double major in English and Religious Studies. Because there's just gotta be a huge job market for that degree, right?
Anyway, this weekend I began work on an important project for one of my Religious Studies classes, Prophets of Social Justice. This is a research project, in which I and two others in the class have been assigned a passage from the book of Jeremiah to write individual research papers on, and then present as a group in class. Knowing that I had two other important assignments due this week, as well as a very busy weekend planned, I decided to be a good kid for once, and actually work on my homework in my free time over the weekend.
The problem is... I may have underestimated how much work my project for Prophets would be. I spent almost all of my spare time over the weekend researching my passage, and as a result, didn't get any work done on my other two assignments. The first one was due Monday, but I got really lucky there, because the class it was due in is my only class that day, and it wasn't until 2:30. I spent the whole morning leading up to class pulling that assignment together.
However, I also co-lead a small group for new students on Monday nights, and I was supposed to be leading discussion Monday. Since I hadn't had any time to work on my topic over the weekend, I spent the next several hours working on that. Small group ended at 8:30, and I still had to do more research even after working on it all weekend. Tuesday's class was going to be a work day, where we would pull together our presentations and prepare, so I had to be ready to contribute. I ended up working on my research until about 3:00 in the morning with a friend
The next day, I found out that one of my group members hadn't done any of her research, which meant that we really couldn't work on our presentation. This was not good at all, because we have to present on Thursday. So we made plans to meet at 9:00 Thursday morning to pull everything together. That gives us roughly 45 minutes of planning time. But I couldn't worry about that too much, because I still had too much to do. In addition to that, we learned that we needed to prepare an outline of out research to give to the class as a part of our presentation.
I spent all of my time between classes that day doing the homework I'd missed for my next class, attended said class, and then met up with a friend 15 minutes after getting out in order to grab dinner, and attend a social that the Religious Studies department was holding. After the social, we headed back to my friend's place to get some homework, and research done. I stayed up until about 4:00 in the morning working on reviewing, and typing up a response to stories from one of my classes, and putting together my outline for the presentation.
After that, I got about three and a half hours of sleep, and woke up at 7:30 so that I could finish my outline, and send it to my group members before meeting my advisor to talk about classes for the spring semester. Immediately after leaving his office, I headed for the library to crank out my second assignment that was due this week, and to try and get some reading for class in. The assignment got done, but the reading may or may not have been replaced by a fifteen minute nap.
I went to class, and now here I am, typing this up so that I can vent to the internet, while I scarf down some soup before I go to my 6:00-9:00 class. When I get out of that class, I'll be attending a meeting that goes until 10:00, and then I'll be coming back to my room to try and get my research paper written, considering the fact that it's due tomorrow. I'm planning for an all-night, to be honest, which is the only reason I bothered going to sleep at all last night.
Tomorrow morning, I'll be meeting one of my group members at 8:00, and then the other one will join us at 9:00 so we can plan out our presentation, which has to be 30 minutes long, plus 15 minutes for discussion. After that, my second class is cancelled, but I'll be going to my roommate's Student Recital, and from there I'll be doing events from 5:00 - 8:00. After that... I think I'll sleep.
If you actually read all of that... I'll be really surprised. Anyway, it's not really written to be read. It's just there because I felt like venting about my lack of sleep and sudden load of homework. I absolutely loathe presentations, and I haven't even had time to be nervous for this one yet.
